SILENT AFTERLIFE
a silent hill ij-based rp
P R E M I S E
For the people who are taken to the Otherworld of Silent Hill, life afterwards (indeed, if there is life at all) is changed dramatically. Their fates have been interwoven into the town forever, and eternity can last a very long time.
There is an Afterlife beyond death for these people -- yet it is not Heaven or Hell. Instead, the town they could never escape has reclaimed them, and will hold them inside forever.
The town is very similar to the way it was when they visited: misty and cold, with a thick, heavy fog falling over the town. Snow falls at times but never accumulates, and the streets are dim without the aid of the sun and patrolled by hellish monsters fueled by the town's dark background. And then, at times, untriggered and unpredictable, the town will change -- dark and hot, where rain falls and the aid of a flashlight is the only light one can hope for. In this world, the monsters are larger in number and far more deadly -- and shelter is the best thing to seek.
Your character, after their death, (whether in-game or after their escape from the town) finds themselves back in Silent Hill -- this time forever. If there is an escape from the town, why look for it? What will it lead to? Heaven? Hell? Or simply nothingness?
But being in Silent Hill presents problems, too -- namely, survival. Food and supplies must be found, a stand against the monsters must be taken, and alliances must be formed. If this is punishment from God, then it's one sick version of Purgatory.

Okay, it's official - journals are written on paper, and any journals not clearly marked as either private or filtered to specific individuals can be found as memos by anyone. Commnets are memos that you write in regards to that journal that the character will come across again in due time, delivered by the town.

Just a quick reminder - I want everyone to understand that as a mod, I won't tolerate any drama in this RP. OOC and IC are to remain firmly separated. If this becomes an issue, all parties involved will be asked to surrender their characters and leave the RP. This is a serious no-tolerance policy bred from too many politics and other RPs I've been involved in.
Don't cause stress for other players - a lot of us come here to relax and unwind. For many of us, Silent Hill is more than just something we like - it's something we love, and there's nothing worse than having drama infect your refuge.
If I hear about it, I will take stories from both sides. I will listen to all parties involved. Don't think you won't be confronted on it - you will. I will do my best to be impartial, and if I cannot ascertain that there is a single guilty party, all members involved will be asked to leave.
One warning. I'm so serious about this.

When posting a log, please include the following information:
Who: This should list all characters in the scene starting with your name. If you're starting a thread and you want to leave it open to anyone, list your name and then "OPEN".
What: What is the topic of this thread?
Where: What part of town or specific area is this in? Please see here for a list of places in Silent Hill as well as town maps.
Rating: Put a general rating as well as why it's being rated that way here. Please use G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17. All sexual content must be NC-17.
Then the meat of your post goes under an LJ cut.
You can either post complete logs from AIM or email or you can start a log and let people play within comments (this is most of what we will be doing). |

To help you decide what to do about your character's death, here are the endings we've decided to use for each game. Since each game has multiple endings (and this often affects the way you'll play your character and his/her death), please make sure you've seen the ending we're using and play your character accordingly.
Silent Hill 1: Good ending (in which Harry, with infant Heather, escapes Silent Hill, but Cybil was killed by Harry)
Silent Hill 2: In Water ending (in which James commits suicide by driving into Toluca Lake)
Silent Hill 3: Good ending (in which Heather and Douglas survive Silent Hill)
Silent Hill 4: 21 Sacraments ending (in which Walter completes the 21 Sacraments by killing Eileen and Henry)
Silent Hill 0rigins: Good ending (in which Travis escapes Silent Hill and Alessa leaves her child, Cheryl, by the side of the road for Harry to find)*
Silent Hill Homecoming: Due to the nature of this game, we're leaving this up to the interpretation of any applicant wishing to play Alex. The only ending we cannot accept is the Drowning ending, due to its paradoxical nature.
*A note for potential 0rigins players: If you want to use elements of the Bad ending in your interpretation of Travis' character, please feel free! The Bad ending leaves Travis recalling some horrible blocked out memories which, while not mentioned in the Good ending, may still be true. It's up to you how you want to play him, just make sure you specify exactly what you're doing in your application.
No, sorry, we're not using the UFO endings, as fun as that might be. XD |

How did your character die?: This is the way your character entered Silent Hill. As you should know from reading the Premise, all characters are dead. Some characters are exempt from this question (Maria). Please check the Premise page (link above) to see which ending is being used for each game. This will help you make your decision. If your character's death is not revealed in canon, make something up! Maybe it's been years since they've died, but each character will return to Silent Hill in the same appearance as while they were there for the first time.
